Well I obviously agree, but if people want to use it what can we do? I do think it's a shame because looking araound most other forums appear to be American based, or have an affinity to a magazine. As a UK sight, it would be nice to see it grow to show the Americans that they do not have a monopoly of fretsaws/scrollsaws and the skills involved. I recently came across an American who was obviously totally unaware that because Diamond Fretasws were not as numerous in the states as the Hegner and others that they do not sell worldwide and nobody buys them! The fact that they are sold to nearly every country and contint in the world had obviously missed him because he has never seen one! Is that me or is that slightly biased? Anyway I must admit the Americans are very enthusiastic and nice people who really do use the forums a lot to share ideas and thoughts. So yes come on lets share a few ideas on any subject. |

I'm still looking in !
I agree, it's a shame that the forum isn't being used much at present. For me, it's a case of being inactive on the woodwork front at present due to my cold workshop. When spring finally arrives, no doubt I'll be more productive.
Paul, you make an interesting point about the Americans being unaware of Diamond saws. By and large, the saw that's promoted most vigorously on the US forums is the De Walt, although there have recently been criticisms that its no longer being produced to the same high standards as previously. I was wondering, do you think Americans are deterred from the Diamond by the adverse £:$ exchange rate and the cost of transport?

Yes I think the cost of shipping is expensive, although that was not really my point as there are Hundreds of Diamonds over there. I think the problem is that the size of America versus the limited production of the Diamond and if you can't see one working, would you buy it? I think people are naturally sceptical and there are Thousands of De-Walts etc which the Americans can see working every day. From Doug's point of view I know he would rather sell 10 good hand built saws than 100 average ones so no problem there. I am just suprised that they don't look further than the UK. I know when Gill, did her original post re the vibration problem on her well worn used saw on www.scrollsawer.com, rather than assume something was wrong with the saw, as I immediately did and I beleive proved to be the case. Everyone gave tips on absorbing it!! I was amazed as I know how smoothly they run normally. Provided they have a DECENT base, they certainly do not need all that weight etc!. The heavy weight ideas seem very popular over ther as Doug has noted before, but that is possibly because they have not compared it to anything like the Diamond, I know I am biased but anyone is welcome to say what they feel. I welcome any Americans to participate this forum as their knowledge and skills are massive and it would be nice to have a few more names to chat to. p.s.I have now found a busy uK site which is interesting. www.ukworkshop.co.uk If not we can just enjoy it ourselves eh.

This Forum will succeed because Mr. J. D. Woodward manufactures a terrific fretsaw - the Diamond!

I've just been offered a Diamond scroll (to buy) and was pointed to your website / forum for further info, and then found this link. I've used a jig saw and also bandsaw a lot, but I've not used a scroll saw since college - several gererations ago..
Might I suggest that there is not more activity on this site because artisan / craftsmen tend to be image rather than word orientated.. I must admit that I'm disappointed with the gallery, and so as a complete novice - the possibilities of scrollwork and marquetry.. no offence intended - just not a whole here (yet !) - can anyone recommend a site offering inspiration ?? Perhaps a partnership with another site might work until this is established in it's own right ?

There's no point having a forum for people to ask questions if those questions aren't going to be answered. I'm confident there are some people here who could respond after a fashion to requests for information, but their responses couldn't possibly be as authoritative as comments from the manufacturer.

Hi Reg and welcome to this forum,
I've taken a couple of photos of my Type 6 and Type 7 blade holders so hope they help you. The Type 6 is identical to the Type 7 but with extra machining to take pinned, coping, junior or full size hacksaw blades etc.

Hi again Reg, The bottom holders are identical to the top holders but the knob is replaced by a nut and the thread length is shorter. The thread length is long enough to allow for adjustment up or down of the holder in it's swivel housing to set it in the correct position for things like blades with reverse teeth. For example, you can set how many reverse teeth will actually cut.
You can buy these holders by contacting Doug on +44 01455 613432
In case you haven't seen the Diamond web site, here's the link......
