The variable speed controller on my saw keeps changing speed of its own volition. I've peeped inside the unit and all the wires seems to be securely soldered in place. Is there anything I can do to repair it, or will I have to buy a completely new unit?

Hi Gill, I think you will find that the controller unit (certainly on the one's I built were of the solid state type..ie a chip)contained in the swith box unit, just looks like a black piece of melted plastic and commercially produced. I have just checked with Doug £25 & only 2 wires to connectand & he agrees with my diagnosis, ok so I dont know much about the wood working I agree or maybe this was just a fluke. Give him a call or drop him aline and he will senod one along. Alternatlvely if you pop in to the workshop when he is there I am sure one can be fitted very quickly. Please call first though. |

Hi Paul
Thanks for your help. Gosh, you're speedy today !
I have to travel to Rugby next week on a date yet to be determined, so I'll try to persuade my driver that we should have a detour to Hinckley (if Doug is available). Why am I travelling to Rugby? That's where the second-hand Diamond AF-24VS is that I've just bought on Ebay for £100 !

Hi Jill this is Doug I see that Paul has already replied to you this fault seems to be the micro-chip drifting apart from a slipping belt this is the only reason for the speed variation .Please send the unit back to me at 7 Higham Way, Hinckley. Leicestershire. LE10 - 2PU Tel 01455 613432 All Diamond fretsaws are guaranteed for 5 years I will send you a free replacement - if its over 5 years the unit is £25 it is a simple task to remove the unit. Take the grey cover off the switchbox UNPLUG from MAINS first - then remove the control knob the the round type with the red cap just pulls off the later type of pointer knob has a small grub screw in the side requires a 2mm allen key behind the knob is a hex nut remove this and the unit on its alloy heat sink will come off then disconnect the 2 wires and return the unit a Diamond is never obsolete I send spare parts all over the world . Please call me any time you need help, All the best Doug. |

Hi Paul
It's my second . I haven't picked it up yet but I shall post a piccy when I do.
Of course, I don't need another scroll saw, but when I saw it was going so cheaply... well, the temptation was too much . And from Doug's point of view, I suppose it's another second hand saw that's no longer going to divert customers from his brand new ones!

Very nice. Don't worry about Doug, he only worries if they don't work 110%.I swear he thinks none will ever wear out, they are all his babies you know. Enjoy! |
