It's available from Hobbies of Dereham ( http://www.alwayshobbies.com/products.asp?sid=146 ) - at a price !
I've recently been told that you can buy sheets cut to size from:
ST Nixon & Sons Ltd North End Wisbech Cambs Tel 01945 583231
It's a bit of a journey from London, and I've never tried them myself, but they could be worth checking.
BBP seems to be as common as the proverbial hens teeth in the UK. If you manage to get hold of some, let us know!

Thank you for your help Gill See what you mean by at a price. What wood are you using for your projects. I have tried using ply from a diy store but it seams to break up no matter what I do. Where would you source your wood for an intarsia project? Thanks again for your help All the best |

Hi Cabby
As you can no doubt surmise , I rarely use BBP. One of my favourite materials is actually MDF for segmentation because I like to paint my projects. However, I also use wood too. If I'm scrolling a fairly large portrait, I'll use interior grade plywood from B&Q. The quality may not be top notch, but you can sometimes find boards that are good enough. For smaller portrait projects I tend to pass whatever wood I have through my thicknesser and use that. I have jointed wood before and used that for portraits, but I don't like doing it because of possible weaknesses where the glue join might not have really 'taken', meaning that the the wood will be vulnerable at that point.
Most of my wood comes from auctions of timber cut down by local tree surgeons. If I need something that's not indigenous or I need something between auctions, I buy it from Good Timber ( http://www.goodtimber.com ) near Northampton.
You might be more interested in a timber merchant that's closer to London. I've heard good reports of SL Hardwoods ( http://www.slhardwoods.co.uk ) and bought a sack of their offcuts once on the internet. It was good value and I should imagine that it might be useful for intarsia projects, although it was predominantly oak and beech.

Hi Cabby I get my birch ply from Brewers the decorators, but Travis Perkins also do it. yes the price is high but the quality is best. Ask for interior no voids, this saves having holes appear between sheets. Another good firm is Silverman. Hope that helps. ps for technical details have a look at www.latvianplywood.co.uk/products.html |
