I stumbled back here by accident .
I spend most of my time on other scroll saw forums now, most of which are very active. And heresy beyond heresy, I find myself using my Hegner in preference to my Diamond! The quick release blade change on the Hegner is the reason why.

Good to have a post from you Gill even if it was by accident and nobody else wants you LOL. I understand fully about the quicker blade change on the Hegner as the Diamond, although a great all-round saw, needs a drastic upgrade in that department to compete with better blade changing systems. Mind you, the Hegner is so slow compared to many other saws. I have seen your posts in another forum (MSN scrollsaw portraits from memory?)and they are always very boring. I am a member there too but sadly I haven't been on there lately mainly due to your boring posts. Please reply with any current projects you have on the go as I cringed/laughed at the previous pics you've posted. |

Well, they weren't cut with a Diamond, but I've been designing and cutting some dance segmentation projects from MDF lately.

I tend to discuss scrolling more on the SSW&C forum ( http://www.scrollsawer.com/forum/index.php ) and the fledgling scrollsaw board over at the UKworkshop forum ( http://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/index.php ) nowadays.

Keep going Gill and I'm sure you'll get there in the end. The fact they are your own designs doesn't help your cause much does it ! |

I use my Fretsaw's all the time but not just for fretwork projects, I find them excellent for general woodwork, in fact woodturner/'journalist' Ian Wilkie said at one of his demos that if he could only have one machine in his workshop in addition to his lathe it would be a Fretsaw.
I use the fretsaw on a regular basis to make box comb joints for small drawers, I have recently made lot's of decorative fittings such as corbels and parts for a fancy cornice that I have fitted around my hall ceiling.
I own 3 electric fretsaws, Hegner, Diamond and a cheapie thing that was given to me! The hegner is used most for fretwork because of the excellent quick release mechanism.
I have written, faxed and emailed Diamond in the past asking them to consider some sort of cam quick release but have never received any reply, which is one reason that I decided to buy a Hegner last time! |

Sadly, Woodman, I think you may be right. Doug was still active when I met him last year and I've got to say that the personal customer service he offered was second to none. He gave my dilapidated second hand machine a complete overhaul.
However, the only measure we have of his continued vigour is what we witness on this forum.
